Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has been told by president Joan Laporta that the club is looking to sell their young superstar Ansu Fati in hopes of signing club legend Lionel Messi.
Lionel Messi left Barca in 2021 due to the club not being able to comply with Laliga’s financial fair play regulations. Now, Messi has Barcelona as his top priority once his contract with PSG ends this summer.
Even though Ansu Fati is talented and could’ve been the world for Barcelona in the coming years, the club is optimistic to sign their former captain because with Lionel Messi you get unprecedented sponsors from major investors as well as increased chances to win the Champions League.
As reported by El Nacional, the Argentine will have to return on a lower salary. Approximately €10 million, which is a lot less when compared to when he last played for Barca. Barcelona would still have to check with Laliga if the €10 million salary is possible for Lionel Messi.
On the other hand, the Blaugrana will look to churn out about €50 million by selling their young prodigy Ansu Fati. Tottenham Hotspurs are reportedly interested in buying Fati and this price can go up to €90 million if other European clubs jump in the race.
Recently Anu Fati’s father Boris has shown his dislike towards the way his son is treated at Camp Nou. Boris Fati has also entertained the idea of Fati leaving Barcelona this summer. The decision could be very difficult for manager Xavi Hernandez who thinks that Ansu Fati is the future of Barcelona.
Amid the controversy between the 20-year-old’s father and Barcelona, Xavi had this to say:
“I don’t understand why this is being talked about now in our press conferences,” There is no transfer window now so Ansu is not for sale. He is a very important player for us now and for the future.”
Xavi added: “I have extraordinary confidence in him. Whether he has more or fewer minutes will depend on his performance. I really have blind faith in him. He will be a very important player for the present and the future. But he must be patient. There is too much rushing in everything.”
It seems like Ansu Fati’s relationship with Barcelona might not be the fairy tale we imagined it would be. And this can be the basis for Barcelona selling the Spanish forward in hopes of bringing their beloved Lionel Messi back to Spain.
