Argentine goalkeeper Leandro Requena scored a remarkable goal in a game between CD Cobresal and Colo-Colo in Chile’s Primera Division, scoring directly from a goal kick.
Cobresal led 2-0 before the spectacular strike from the goalkeeper as he set up to hoof a goal kick up the field.
The Cobresal goalkeeper stepped up to take a goal kick from his six-yard box, and the opposing defenders and goalkeeper completely misjudged the position, allowing the ball to bounce once and go over their heads into the goal.
Requena, 35, admitted that after hoofing the goal kick, his initial feeling was one of regret when he noticed that two of his colleagues were unmarked on the other side of the field.
But much to his surprise and the teammates wearing the Cobresal jersey, the ball went into the goal and set off a frenzy of joy from the players who were completely astounded by the goal.
This goal has the potential to be nominated for a Guinness Book of World Records. The current record holder is Tom King, whose goal kick during the Newport County vs. Cheltenham Town game traveled 96.01 meters.
