Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing out-of-favour Manchester United captain Harry Maguire this summer.
The North London club Spurs endured a horrible 2022/23 season. They had three managerial changes after sacking head coach Antonio Conte in March in another campaign without a trophy.
Tottenham finished in eighth place during the season, which was the club’s lowest since 2008/09, while they also became the first PL team in 15 years to both score and concede more than 60 goals in a top-flight season.
Ahead of their start to life under newly appointed manger Ange Postecoglou, Spurs are in the market for a new centre-back during the summer transfer window.
According to a report by 90min, the club has drawn up a list of defensive targets, including out-of-favour Manchester United and Manchester City defenders Harry Maguire and Aymeric Laporte.
Maguire is one of many players expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after a disappointing season in which he didn’t feature frequently for Erik ten Hag. The Englishman has reportedly been offered to clubs in Serie A. It is thought that his preference should he leave United would be to move to Italy, but Spurs have thrown their heart into the ring for his services.
Meanwhile, Laporte is also high on the shortlist given to Posteclogue. The Spanish defender, who lost his place as a regular starter during the 2022/23 season, is keen to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.
Also on Spurs’ list of defensive targets is Wolves’ Max Kilman. The Englishman has long had admirers in North London and remains a target for Tottenham.
