  • The Football Lovers has compiled a list of top footballers over 30 years of age
  • Recently, we have seen some players defying the laws of mother nature to continue performing at the highest level of football regardless of their age.
  • Age is just a number in football. It doesn’t define the quality of a player.
  • Their age might suggest that they’re near the end of the careers but they continue to cut above the rest.

Note: Players who prefer playing on the wing are not included in this list. Only strikers.

8. Dries Mertens (Napoli)

Dries was one of the talented footballers of the Belgian national team, but he became a world star at a later age. In the summer of 2016, Gonzalo Higuain left Napoli, and the new striker Milik was injured. Maurizio Sarri was forced to put Mertens in the position of central striker, but this decision turned out to be correct. Mertens became a top forward, and a few seasons later became the top scorer in Napoli history. Now the Belgian footballer is 33 years old.

7. Ciro Immobile (Lazio)

Like Mertens, Ciro Immobile was considered a talented footballer but realized his potential at a later age. Last season, Immobile became the top scorer in Europe and won the Golden Boot prize. Now Ciro is 31 years old, and Transfermakrt estimates him at 45 million euros.

6. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)

It would be an understatement to say that Robert Lewandowski just got robbed off a Ballon d’Or. He was performing insanely and there wasn’t even going to be much of a debate about it.

At 32 years of age, he won the treble with Bayern Munich; winning the Bundesliga, the Champions League, and the DFB Pokal cup. He was also the top goal scorer in all the competitions, even surpassing the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lewandowski scored a whopping 55 goals from 47 appearances for Bayern Munich in the 2019/20 season. He scored 15 goals in 10 Champions League appearances and was virtually unstoppable in the competition.

The Polish international is easily the best striker in the business right now. Even at his age, he is getting goals more than the players of young age. It will be interesting to see how long he can keep this up.
