Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Karim Benzema all have several things in common.
They played in the Spanish La Liga and have won several La Liga and Champions League titles. But those are not their only similarities.
The trio are considered among the best players in their generation and are among the elite players to have won the Ballon d’Or trophy.
They are also known for their eye for goal and special footballing ability despite being in their late 30s.
Messi, Ronaldo and Benzema are still going strong despite their age. They have been at the top level from their teenage years and have scored over 2,000 goals combined.
38-year-old Ronaldo is still going strong at Al-Nassr, while the 35-year-old Messi remains a key player for PSG. On the other hand, 35-year-old Benzema is Real Madrid’s undisputed number-one striker and is currently sitting second in La Liga’s top scores list.
But what makes them elite despite being in the later stages of their career?–It’s found in their nutrition.
All three players are picky with what they eat, which is responsible for their agelessness. They are all heavy on eating superfoods, that is, natural products which also have essential nutrients.
And one food which meets both criteria is seaweed, which according to Professor James E Griffin, has experienced a 7% increase in consumption in the United States.
Seaweed is known for helping keep the ocean clean but also has seven times more protein than traditional protein sources like meat, milk, egg, fish and vegetables.
Seaweed also contains vitamins A, B1, B2, C, D, and E and iron, potassium, fibre and calcium. So players are energised for matches and training sessions after eating this food.
It also contains anti-ageing substances and Chlorella, which is useful in getting rid of potentially harmful toxins at a rapid rate.
One man who knows all three men personally has admitted that they consume a lot of seaweed.
Spanish chef Alberto Mastromatteo has been a private chef to all three players, and he encourages people to eat seaweed because of the many health benefits.
“They contain great nutritional value. Because with a small amount, you get a lot of vegetable protein, which the body synthesises even better than animal protein,” Mastromatteo said via The Sun.
“I am a fervent believer in the extraordinary nutritional power of microalgae, incomparable sources of omega three polyunsaturated fatty acids -and other healthy lipids-, vitamins, carotenoids, antioxidants, etc.
“That is why I usually include spirulina and chlorella in all my dishes.”
