Ruud Van Nistelrooy Settles the ‘GOAT Debate’ with an Affectionate Response

March 24, 2023

Former Manchester United legend and Cristiano Ronaldo’s teammate Ruud van Nistelrooy have finally settled the goat debate from his point of view. The charming devil made 219 appearances for the red devils and managed to score a whopping 150 goals. Most of those he shared with none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.

His unbelievable run in the 02-03 season that saw him get 44 goals in all competitions is still to this day unmatched in modern English football.

Football enthusiasts got massively excited when Gary Nevile shared on his Twitter that Ruud Van Nistelrooy will be making an appearance on The Overlap.

The Dutchman has always been open about his views on the different facets of the game. May it be the Italian defense which he so often ironically speaks about or his time at Old Trafford. But he has always been silent on his opinion of the greatest football player of all time until now.

In a 12-minute interview posted on the Overlap YouTube channel, Gary Neville asked his former United teammate a bunch of questions. Ranging from his time at Manchester United, a player he would want to sign, and his favorite stadiums to play in.

And then Neville cheekily slipped in the obvious one.

“Messi or Ronaldo?”

To that, the dutchman had a clear and solid response.

“I always say Cristiano(Ronaldo) because you have a past with him”

Ruud is currently the head coach of Dutch club PSV which sits at the 3rd spot on the Eredivisie table.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s time at Old Trafford was a successful one. During his tenure at Manchester United, he won one Premiere League, one FA cup, one EFL cup, and one English Super cup title. Cementing his legacy as one of the most elite strikers in English Football history.
