Since investors from Saudi Arabia bought over Newcastle United, they have been linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo and several other big names.
The Magpies are making good progress with the players they have on their books now, and the rumours linking Ronaldo with a move to Saint James’ Park will not go away.
Several top managers in the world will jump at the chance to add him to their squad, and Newcastle United could even play in the Champions League next season.
This makes Ronaldo one of the best men for them because he has won that competition serially and probably can help them do well in it even if it is their first campaign there.
Howe has constantly rubbished the rumours linking the Portugal star with a move to the club and had to do it again after the rumours returned.
Asked about the prospect of that happening, the English gaffer said via Goal:
“I think that kind of speculation has been there from day one since the takeover really. Naturally everyone has then assumed the biggest names in world football will be going to Newcastle. Now we’ve not recruited that way and financially we can’t recruit that way at the moment but also we have to bring the right players into the group. I will say the transfer market is such a complex decision, there’s a lot of thought needed. You can’t just pick a name there has to be a lot of thought going into both financially and looking into players.”
Pushed on the prospect of working with Ronaldo, he added: “I’m not sure who’ve we’ve been linked with. They are difficult questions to answer. The transfer window is in the distance and is secondary at the minute. We are focused on training. Until we know where we stand next year it’s difficult to predict.”
