“Messi is always welcome and more so here at Barca” – Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo gave his thought on the much-rumored return of Lionel Messi

May 20, 2023

Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo is an important piece of Xavi’s puzzling defense at Barcelona. The 24-year-old recently gave an interview discussing Barca’s triumph in the Laliga, his contract renewal as well as the supposed return of club legend Lionel Messi.

Ronald Araujo is one of Barcelona’s defenders who made life difficult for Laliga’s attackers. With the help of Araujo, Barcelona has only conceded 13 goals in the entirety of the Laliga campaign this season.

While speaking to Futbol Portal UY, Ronald Araujo discussed the secret behind Barca’s strong defense.

“We have managed to be a family, with young people and veterans, and that has been very important.”

Araujo also acknowledged the season in which they have conceded only 13 goals to date.

“Defensively, we have had a great season. It is spectacular to have conceded only 13 goals and even more so because we have come from previous seasons in which we always conceded.”

Ronald Araujo is one of Barcelona’s stars whose contracts have not been successfully registered by Laliga. This is an ongoing problem with the Spanish club due to their financial reasons with the league.

This has led to rumors that Ronald Araujo might be in search of a different club. However, the defender seemed calm and composed on that matter saying:

“I don’t think the renewal contract has been officially confirmed & registered, but it will be done soon. I’m very happy here,”

The defender was then asked about Lionel Messi and while he was hesitant to answer, he did give a heartwarming response,

“Generally, we don’t talk about it, but Messi is always welcome and more so here at Barca.”

Laliga is supposed to reveal their thoughts on Barcelona’s viability plan anytime this week. If the plan gets greenlit, we might see a registered Ronald Araujo playing alongside Lionel Messi next season.
