Revealed: Why did Sadio Mane punch teammate Leroy Sane?

April 14, 2023

It is no longer news that Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane got into an altercation in their side’s Champions League tie on Tuesday at the Etihad.

Both players had to be separated by their teammates after former Liverpool attacker Mane reportedly punched Sane in the face, leaving the former Man City attacker with a cut on his lower lip.

The club has since announced that the 31-year-old is suspended for one game— Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga clash against Hoffenheim. Mane will also be fined for his actions, as the club decided against terminating his contract.

Following the dressing room row, Bayern released a statement about Sadio Mane that read:

“Sadio Mane, 31, will not be included in the FC Bayern squad for this Saturday’s home match against 1899 Hoffenheim. This is due to his misconduct after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. Mane will also be given a fine.”

However, if you are wondering what led to the fight between both players, journalist Papa Mahmoud Gueye has the answer.

According to the journo, Leroy Sané called Sadio Mané “Black sh*t” (Scheisse schwarze), making the Senegalese react angrily.

Although Mane has yet to apologise to his teammates, Leroy Sane has reportedly expressed his regret on the matter.

Since his summer move from Liverpool, Mane has scored eleven goals and provided five assists in 31 matches for the Bavarians. He came on as a substitute in the game against City at the Etihad, while Sane was on the pitch against his former club from the start.
