Revealed: Details of Barcelona’s ‘two-year deal’ for Lionel Messi emerge, including salary and ‘important contract clause’

April 20, 2023

PSG superstar Lionel Messi will depart the French capital this summer, the details of his contract with former club FC Barcelona have reportedly revealed.

After a prosperous two years in Ligue 1, Messi’s contract with Paris Saint Germain is near its end. Despite PSG laying different options to keep the Argentine for one more year, Messi is hell-bent on a dream return to Barcelona.

This is where the problem lies, Barcelona’s finances are highly restricted by Laliga’s FFP regulations. So whatever deal they make out for the Argentine has to comply with those rules.

According to Sports, FC Barcelona finally has an offer that they can make to Lionel Messi.

One part of the report shows the amount the club will offer the PSG forward. Messi will be offered a yearly salary of €13 million, which is just a quarter of what he used to earn back in 2021 reportedly €100 million.

Another interesting detail shared in the report was that Barcelona will offer Lionel Messi a two-year contract that will run till 2025.

But wait, there will be a release clause. Sports reports that:

“FC Barcelona, on the other hand, offers Messi a two-year contract, until June 2025. In any case, one can speak of a “one plus one” given in June 2024, the Argentine would have the option to terminate it.”

It is quite evident that Lionel Messi is worth more than that. But due to Barcelona’s issues with FFP, they can only pay the Argentine €13 million same as their other superstar Robert Lewandowski.

If Messi agrees to this interesting package, he can play in Spain this coming season. If not, he still has plenty of options from around the world. One of them is the €400 million per year deal from Saudi club Al Hilal, and the other one is from David Beckham’s Inter Milan who also offers a fancy stake at the club.
