Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly sacked their head coach Christophe Galtier and have lined up former Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann as his immediate replacement.
According to reports in the French publication Le Parisien, the club’s football advisor Luis Campos informed Galtier of their decision on Tuesday morning, with the club set to make an official announcement.
Galtier was hired at the beginning of the just-concluded season, replacing the unpopular Mauricio Pochettino. His dismissal means he only lasted one season in the hot seat at Parc des Princes.
Although he won the Ligue 1 title, albeit, by one point, the 56-year-old faced fierce criticism following his side’s round-of-16 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich. He was also unable to win the Coupé De France Cup with PSG and he struggled to bring the best out of superstars like Lionel Messi and Neymar.
The Frenchman was PSG’s seventh permanent manager since their Qatari takeover in 2011 and could be replaced by Nagelsmann, who, according to reports, is the favourite to take over at Parc des Princes.
The German has been out of work since leaving Bavarian three months ago but could lead a new-look PSG side next season. According to Foot Mercato (via GOAL), Nagelsmann is in advanced talks with PSG officials.
He could be joined at the club by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, who the club’s Qatari ownership has identified as the ideal candidate to serve as Nagelsmann’s assistant. The Frenchman has previously held the same position alongside Roberto Martinez with the Belgian national team.
