The World Cup dream is over for Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo, as Morocco are the first ever African side to reach the World Cup semi-finals.
The African nation defeated Portugal 1-0 to book a place in the semi-final against either France or England. This has no doubt been a record breaking tournament for them as they look to bring the World Cup to Africa and shock the world.
As for one of the greatest footballers on the planet, Cristiano Ronaldo, the dream to win the World Cup is over. He was seen leaving the pitch in tears, bringing a sore feeling to the eyes for every football fan.
Portugal started the brighter of the two sides and almost opened the scoring in the sixth minute, but Yassine Bounou made a fantastic stop to save Joao Felix’s close-range header. However, Morocco grew into the game and deservedly took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Youssef En-Nesyri. The Sevilla forward defied the laws of physics, as he leaped high into the air to head the ball into the net.
After that, it was all defence, defence and defence for Morocco as Portugal tried everything to get the ball into Yaseen Bonou’s net. However, the Moroccan wall remained firm and held their nerve in the finals moments to win a historical game of football.
