  • Pedri is one of the main starters in Xavi’s Barcelona this season.

Pedri has been an important part of the rebuild of Barcelona this season. The young midfielder has already become a vital part of Barcelona’s squad and has made a name for himself. However, Pedri was rejected by Real Madrid after he gave the trial.

Real Madrid reportedly turned down the opportunity to recruit Pedri as a teenager, saying he wasn’t talented enough to play for the Spanish giants.

Over the last two years, the Spain international has established himself as one of Barça’s most significant players at Camp Nou, and at the age of 18, he appears to be on the verge of a stellar club and international career.

Pedri joined Barcelona from Las Palmas in 2019, but he has since admitted that his career may have followed a different path had he not had a trial with Real Madrid when he was younger.

“I went there [to Real Madrid] and the first few days I couldn’t practice because the pitches were snowed in,” Pedri told Tuttosport.

“I trained three days. One I think they were playing, and they took me down with the B team to train. In the end, they told me that I didn’t have the level to be there and that they were going to leave me to keep looking.”

While the rejection may have shattered the youngster’s confidence, Pedri went on to say that the rejection motivated him to excel elsewhere, eventually leading to a transfer to Barcelona.

“At first, you don’t like being rejected anywhere, but then it motivates you to think that if they didn’t want you, now you’re going to work hard so that something else can come in the future.

“Now I’m where I want to be [at Barcelona].

“I have never met the person who said no to me. I don’t remember who he is. I would tell him that now I am enjoying myself at Barcelona.”

Pedri has already had the opportunity to play with some of the finest players in the world, like Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Gerard Pique, in his brief time at Barcelona. And they’re all in his ideal XI.

Barça were a complete embarrassment throughout Ronald Koeman’s first half of the season, but they have been in fantastic form ever since Xavi took over as manager.

Pedri would have been overjoyed with his team’s recent Clasico victory over Real Madrid, which saw the Blaugrana triumph 4-0 at the Bernabeu. That victory must have felt like a sweet redemption for Pedri.

Barcelona are currently sitting comfortably at third position in La Liga table, 12 points behind the first position team Real Madrid. Their redemption season is currently in full force as Xavi looks to rebuild the club earlier than most people expected.
