Paris Saint Germain offers a strong response to Lionel Messi’s ‘embarrassing’ apology ahead of their Ligue 1 clash

May 7, 2023

After Lionel Messi posted an apology video for the unauthorized Saudi Arabia trip, PSG offered their response as the club took a commanding position by not choosing Lionel Messi in their clash against Troyes.

Yes, the apology could have broken the brick wall between the French club and the World Cup winner but Lionel Messi is kept out of the PSG squad for today’s Ligue 1 fixture.

Why is the club so angry with the Argentine? Well, Messi who was once a priority for PSG for next season is now considered a distraction. This happened after PSG suffered a poor defeat against Lorient which troubled their Ligue 1 title chances.

Lionel Messi was deemed one of the culprits for the loss. And the Argentine followed it up with the worst decision as he took a commercial trip to Saudi Arabia as part of his commitment to the Saudi Ministry of Tourism.

While Messi was enjoying his time in the east, Paris Saint Germain announced that the forward has been suspended for two weeks without pay as he did not inform anyone about his little trip.

It also meant that Lionel Messi will not be in the PSG squad for two important fixtures, Troyes and Ajaccio.

The suspension led Messi to issue a public apology where the 35-year-old apologized to the club and the fans about his actions. Messi said:

“Hello, well, I wanted to make this video for what is happening. First of all, obviously ask for forgiveness from my colleagues and the club. I honestly thought we were going to have an off day after the game as it had been happening during the previous weeks. I had organized this trip to (Saudi) Arabia that I had previously canceled and this one I couldn’t. And nothing, I repeat, I apologize for what I did and I am waiting for what the club wants to do with me. Nothing more, a hug.”

It looks like the apology didn’t work as PSG has left the player out of their squad for today’s match against Troyes. PSG manager Christophe Galtier, although didn’t respond to Messi’s apology, did say that he had no part in the decision to suspend the star.

The manager said: “It wasn’t my decision to take. I was informed of the decision and I defer to it.”

There is no news on whether Lionel Messi will play next week’s fixture or not. Several PSG fans even want the club to suspend the player for the rest of the season. What is your take on this? Let us know in the comments below.

I even subscribed an OTT app to watch Ligue 1 matches as it is available in that app only. I watch only PSG matches in Ligue 1 matches because of Messi. Once he leaves, I too delete the app and unfollow PSG.

That’s how we admire him. Win and loss are part of Game. Everyone plays to win. You have no respect. He response of the club is too harsh for such a small issue.
