Nike Chiefs Have Revealed Why Cristiano Ronaldo Was Better Than Lionel Messi For Their Brand

According to reports, Nike executives were delighted to have Cristiano Ronaldo as the face of the company rather than Lionel Messi because of his charismatic personality. The executives believe Messi does not have a personality outside of football.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been sponsored by Nike ever since 2003 and has become the face of the company. In fact, in 2016, Ronaldo became just the third athlete in the history of the company to be awarded with a lifetime contract.

On the other hand, Lionel Messi has been signed to Nike’s biggest rival, Adidas, since 2006. The Argentinian superstar signed a lifetime deal with Adidas in 2017.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have always been compared and put up against each other throughout their careers. The sponsorship deal rivalry has been put into the narrative, as it is no more only Ronaldo vs Messi, but also Adidas vs Nike.

Before 2006, Messi was also signed to Nike, who noticed his rare talent at such a young age and decided to trust him with their project. Thus, two of the most exciting young stars in the European game, Ronaldo and Messi were on the books of Nike together for three years.

A new book titled ‘Messi vs. Ronaldo: One Rivalry, Two GOATs, and the Era That Remade the World’s Game’, by Jonathan Clegg and Joshua Robinson has been in the news over the situation at Nike between Messi and Ronaldo.

The authors spoke to many people at Nike about losing Messi and they claim that, while they were initially upset to lose Messi, they consoled themselves that Ronaldo was the better fit for the brand. The Nike executives believed Messi had “next to no public personality”
