Paris Saint Germain has been handed their 9th defeat of 2023 and the season hasn’t even ended yet.
It was a battle of who wanted more. PSG was up against the 11th-place Lorient who desperately needed something being winless in the league for 4 games now. Lorient showed their dominance on the pitch from the first whistle as PSG went into defensive mode.
It wasn’t long before Les Merlus forward Enzo Le Fee scored making it 1-0. In the advancing minutes, PSG made unsuccessful attempts until they were given a massive blow. A desperate foul from Hakimi led the Parisian to go down to 10 men and from there it was all Lorient.
Darwin Yongwa and Bamba Dieng increased Lorient’s lead to 3-0 in the second half. While PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe did score a questionable goal in the 29th minute, it was certainly not enough for the defending champions.
In the end, it was a pretty easy win for Lorient who improved their league position by one spot. But, it became pretty difficult for Paris Saint Germain as the French club got trolled on Twitter for their poor 2023 stats as this was their 9th defeat in the calendar year.
One fan mocked Lionel Messi’s silent performance by tweeting: “Give him the ballon D’or 2023, What a “finished player”
Another fan tweeted: “Lionel Messi is the biggest fraud in football, glad he left Barcelona so the world could realise.”
One fan came to his support and blamed his teammates: “Get Messi out of there, they’re wasting his last best years smh.”
A Ligue 1 hater took the opportunity the mock the standards of the French league: “And they still lead by 6 points…PATHETIC league…”
Fans were quick to troll Kylian Mbappe as well for his ‘unsportsmanlike’ goal. One fan compared him to Ronaldo: “A cheater just like his idol Ronaldo.”
While another mocked his goal by saying that the striker will ‘do anything’ to compete with rival Haaland.
“He’ll do anything to keep up with Haaland.”
It’s quite evident that it wasn’t a good day for PSG and their fans. Although it’s clear that they’ll win the league, there is no surety that they are on the right path to compete successfully in the European competitions against the big European teams.
Its sad. Just sad to withness the fall of the greatest player in history.
Would love to see him end the carreer somewhere else.
