Ronaldinho: Neither Kylian Mbappe nor Erling Haaland is the best player today

April 11, 2023

Brazil and Barcelona icon Ronaldinho has aired his views on who he thinks is currently the best player in the world, and it’s not Erling Haaland or even Kylian Mbappe.

The Manchester City striker is one of the most-talked-about players in the world currently due to the ridiculous numbers he is producing this season. He sits top of the scoring charts in both the  Premier League and Champions League and is on course to smash many goal-scoring records this season.

Kylian Mbappe is another highly esteemed player, given how crucial he’s been for France and PSG in the last few months. Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior and Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen are also two players that are highly spoken about at the moment, given the numbers they are producing for their clubs.

However, when asked who the best player in the world is at the moment, former Barcelona player Ronaldinho chose Lionel Messi. While the Brazilian admitted that the younger players are making waves, he still chose the 36-year-old Argentina legend as the best-performing player in the world.

“The best in the world is Leo Messi,” he said when quizzed on who he considers the best player in the world.

Messi won the World Cup with Argentina late last year, and Ronaldinho stated he is happy with the things happening with Messi.

He also debunked the notion that he was Messi’s teacher, choosing rather to see himself as the PSG forward’s friend.

“I am his friend,” Ronaldinho said.

“I am very happy for him. It is always a reason for joy to see friends fulfilling their dreams, to see them achieve important things.

“Seeing happy friends is the best thing there is. But I’m not his godfather. I am his friend. I am glad it turned out well.”
