Marco Asensio AGREES to join PSG on free transfer after Real Madrid exit

June 1, 2023

Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio has reportedly agreed to join French Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The Spanish international will leave Madrid this summer when his contract at the club expires.

He had been targeted by Premier League side Aston Villa, who were keen to add him to their squad ahead of their participation in the Europa Conference League next season.

But according to The Athletic, PSG have won the race for the 27-year-old, who they claim has already agreed to a long-term contract worth €10 million (£8.5m/$11m) per year at Parc des Princes.

According to the report, Asensio has not yet signed the deal but will complete the formalities after the season ends.

The agreement comes as a massive blow for the host of Premier League clubs hoping to lure him to England. Apart from Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, Arsenal and Liverpool were also monitoring the Spanish international and were willing to offer him a contract.

But PSG, who yesterday confirmed they would not renew Lionel Messi’s contract this summer, have secured his services.

Real Madrid had wanted to extend Asensio’a eight-year stay at the club and had offered him a new deal since December last year. But the 27-year-old decided in May that he would reject Los Blancos’ offer to extend his contract. The 27-year-old joined Madrid from Mallorca in 2015 before being loaned to Espanyol shortly after.
