Manchester United Are Interested In Signing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong This Summer As The Leader Of The New Project

According to reports in Spain, Manchester United are looking to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer as a part of their new rebuilding process.

On Thursday, Erik Ten Hag was announced as the new manager in charge of Manchester United. Now, it seems that the former Ajax manager wants to reunite with Frenkie de Jong, who was the main man in the midfield for Ten Hag at Ajax.

The Dutch midfielder has been a very crucial part of Xavi’s project at FC Barcelona and regularly starting for the team. However, he could be a part of the big rebuild at the Old Trafford.

According to Sport, Erik Ten Hag is set to receive £210 Million to spend on players and he wants De Jong to be a part of his United midfield next season. Not only that, it seems as though De Jong will be one of the main men in the new look Manchester United.

Frenkie De Jong is reportedly happy to be at Barcelona, as he is playing a crucial role for one of the best clubs in the world. The midfielder has been a regular starter in the Barcelona team this season, making 42 appearances across all competitions, bagging four goals and five assists.  

However, Erik Ten Hag’s arrival at Manchester United might change his mind if the player eventually decides he wants to leave this summer. Ten Hag has a very good relationship with De Jong and the rest of the Dutch Ajax midfielders, and that may play a major role.

Xavi heaped praises on De Jong and said that the midfielder will stay at the club ‘for many years’ as he’s ‘happy here’. 

“For me, Frenkie is a great player.I think he’s taken a step forward since we arrived. He’s a different player, more dynamic.”

“[De Jong] is happy here. There are a lot of games, and we’ll have to rotate in midfield as it’s very demanding physically but he’s important. He’s playing at a very good level. He’s very demanding on himself. He’s a great professional and he’ll keep improving.”
