May 20, 2023

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have won the Premier League after a scintillating run. Without kicking the ball on match day 37, the Blues were handed the trophy by Arsenal, who suffered an embarrassing defeat against the 16th spot Nottingham Forrest.

This is Manchester City’s fifth Premier League title in 6 years, 9th in the club’s history.

Arsenal played Nottingham Forrest to push for the slight chance they had of winning the title. If they’d won, City’s celebrations would have to wait 1 day.

This is perhaps City’s most unbelievable run. Just 2 months ago, they were 8 points behind Arsenal, who were cruising to victory. Now, they’ve won the title with still 3 games left to play.

In the fixture today, Arsenal showed none of the winning mentally, they were praised for the whole season. The Gunners were left trailing after a surprising goal from Nottingham’s Taiwo Awoniyi in the 19th minute. They kept trying but couldn’t level in the rest of the 80 minutes.

It’s no surprise because Manchester City was always the favorite of the competition. They had an unbelievable squad before and with the edition of Erling Haaland, they became even stronger.

Erling Haaland has been a great threat in front of goal. The Norwegian striker has scored 36 goals in the Premier League so far.

But one player that has consistently made City better and is the anchor to which the whole team operates is Kevin de Bruyne. De Bruyne scored 7 goals and an incredible 16 assists in the Premier League this season.

Now that Manchester City has won the league, they will now look to achieve the rare English treble as they are in the final of both the Champions League and the FA Cup.
