Liverpool’s right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has picked Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi as the most significant opponent he has ever faced in his career.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best right-backs in the world. At just 24, the Englishman has won the Champions League, Premier League, Carabao Cup, and the FA Cup for Liverpool.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is very dynamic. He can play as an attacking midfielder, a right-back, and a winger as well. He is even the best free-kick taker in the talented Liverpool squad.
So, him choosing the World Cup winner Lionel Messi as the best speaks volumes.
During a sit down with Goal, Trent Alexander-Arnold was asked to answer, “Who was the best player you played against?”
The Champions League winner responded with Messi,
“I don’t know, he’s just the best.”
In another interview, Trent Alexander-Arnold said this to a similar question,
“Messi. Just seeing how magic he is, just seeing how good he is as a player is unbelievable.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold was part of the Liverpool team that won the UEFA Champions League title back in 2019. His team came up against Barcelona in the semi-final. Over the course of two legs, Alexander-Arnold faced the ‘unbelievable’ Lionel Messi.
The right-back has admired Lionel Messi in the past. In an interview with Oh My Goal, Trent Alexander-Arnold was asked rapid-fire questions.
When told to choose between CR7 and Messi, he said,
“I’ll say Messi. Just because I prefer his style of play and how fast he is.”
When the interviewer questioned who is the best player in the world. Alexander-Arnold had the same name in mind.
“I love Messi. I think he’s the best player ever.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold has a busy summer ahead. He will first feature in the Euros qualifiers for England. After that, he will join the Liverpool squad for pre-season fixtures.
