Lionel Messi Wants to Leave Barcelona

Lionel Messi to leave Barcelona

Lionel Messi has informed FC Barcelona that he wants to leave the club. He would avail himself of the clause in his contract that allows him to terminate free at the end of each season.

According to many reports, the FC Barcelona legend Messi has made a decision on his future. Messi is angered by the trophy-less season at the club as well as some behind the scenes scandals. It is also reported that the Argentinian superstar does not trust Josep Bartomeu, the president of the club. He thinks it impossible to work on a solid project with Bartomeu in charge. Thus, Messi wants to leave Barcelona.

Messi had a meeting with the new manager of the club, Ronald Koeman. It appears as though the manager was unable to convince him to stay at the club in the future.

However, there are some complications in the clause that Messi wants to activate. The clause which states that he could leave free at the end of the season has expired in June and now it is the club’s decision, to let their superstar go or not.

The position of the board until now is that for the little magician to go, his release clause worth 700 Million euros needs to be activated. This may turn into a potential legal battle if the two parties do not agree on terms. The board of directors of the club has called an emergency meeting in the upcoming days to take some very important decisions.

Now that Messi has expressed his desire to leave, the question will arise as to which club the superstar will join. Inter Milan, Paris St. German and Manchester City are being discussed as possible destinations for the little magician.

Lionel Messi has shown the world his capabilities and has cemented himself as one of the world’s greatest football players. Messi joined Barcelona in 2004 and ever since he has impressed everyone with his magical skills. The club legend has won 10 La Liga titles as well as 4 Champions League trophies. Individually, the magician has won a record six Ballon d’Or titles.
