Lionel Messi Opens 2022 World Cup Account Against Saudi Arabia With Ice Cool Penalty

November 22, 2022

With just ten minutes on the clock in their opening game of the FIFA World Cup, Lionel Messi found the back of the net and put Argentina 1-0 up against Saudi Arabia.

The South American giants were awarded an early penalty at the Lusail Stadium after a VAR check deemed that Leandro Paredes had been fouled inside the area from a Messi free-kick.

Lionel Messi stepped up to take the penalty. His finish from the spot kick was calm and collected. Salah Al Shehri was sent completely the wrong way as the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner opened his account.
