Lionel Messi posted on his social media thanking his former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba after the 34-year-old announced that his time with Barca has come to an end.
Whether it was football or real life, Alba and Lionel Messi were true friends before teammates. After both Jordi Alba and Barcelona announced to part ways at the end of the season, Lionel Messi was one of the first to praise the Barca legend.
In the writings posted online, Lionel Messi remembered the time he shared with Alba in Barcelona, calling him a ‘true accomplice’,
“You were more than a teammate, a true accomplice on the court… And how nice it is also to be able to enjoy how well we get along personally.”
He then wished his friend the best of luck for the future and thanked him for what he brought to the table at Barcelona,
“You know that I always wish you the best and also your family, hopefully your new stage will continue to bring you many successes and joys. Thanks for everything, Jordi. A big hug!”
Jordi Alba was contracted with Barcelona till 2024, but amid the financial instability at the club, both parties agreed to terminate the contract before its expiry date.
Alba posted a video on his Twitter which showed highlights of his career at Barcelona. The 34-year-old thanked his fans around the world for the love they gave him.
“I want to thank all the Culers in the world from the bottom of my heart for the great love you have always given me. Thank you very much. For all this, after much meditating and evaluating, I think the best thing is to step aside and I would like to announce that this season will be my last as a Barca player.”
About his future, there are no rumors so far that give an idea of where Jordi Alba could potentially go. Maybe he can return to his former club Valencia, or find one outside of Europe, just like his former teammate Luis Suarez and Iniesta.
