Lionel Messi is set to become the ‘HIGHEST PAID PLAYER’ at Barcelona as both parties work on return – Reports

May 28, 2023

In an effort to re-sign their club legend, Barcelona is reportedly prepared to pay striker Lionel Messi €1 more per week than Robert Lewandowski.

At the end of the current campaign, the Argentine attacker will become a free agent and leave Paris Saint-Germain. He has received a sizable offer from the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, while Inter Miami of the Major League Soccer has also been connected to him. El Nacional, however, reports that Barcelona is becoming more confident that they will be able to lure Lionel Messi back to Camp Nou this summer.

Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, two club stalwarts, will depart the Blaugrana in the summer. Their departure will release a sizable portion of the team’s wage budget. To further relieve their financial strain and free up funds to recruit Messi, they might potentially trade players like Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Lionel Messi and his father Jorge are aware that Barcelona will pay the forward €1 more per year than Robert Lewandowski receives. With an annual salary of €22 million, the Polish striker who joined the team last summer earns the most money in La Liga.

Although Barcelona has not yet made an official offer to Messi, the team is making financial preparations for his future arrival. However, a lot of it will depend on La Liga’s endorsement of the Blaugrana’s future viability plan.

Barcelona must also complete several outstanding registrations, including the contracts for Ronald Araujo, Alejandro Balde, and the renewal of Gavi’s contract. Additionally, the Blaugrana are looking to replace Sergio Busquets in addition to Lionel Messi.
