The farewell ceremony of Barcelona’s beloved Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets will feature an unlikely guest. According to several reports, Barcelona has made contacts to invite their former superstar Lionel Messi to attend the farewell on the final day of the season.
The ceremony will be the end of an era. The two stars were the last of Barcelona’s golden generation, the team that won it all and had it all.
Both Busquets and Alba played alongside Lionel Messi. They won both the La Liga title and Champions League for Barcelona.
Earlier this year, Barcelona was told to cut their expenses if they want to register their current squad as well as buy new ones. The club opted to shortlist a number of players they wanted to sell in the summer.
As that wasn’t enough, with mutual consent, Barcelona terminated the contract of both Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba who still had one year left on paper.
After the news came out, one of the first people to support and praise Sergio Busquets was his former teammate Lionel Messi. He posted on his social media,
“On the field always with the 5 but in reality as a player and as a person you are a 10, Busi, I wish you the best in your new stage and always, both to you and to your entire family. Thank you for on and off the pitch, there were so many moments we spent together, many good and some also complicated… They will stay forever!”
Lionel Messi did the same when Jordi Alba announced his departure,
“You were more than a teammate, a true accomplice on the court… And how nice it is also to be able to enjoy how well we get along personally. You know that I always wish you the best and also your family, hopefully your new stage will continue to bring you many successes and joys. Thanks for everything, Jordi. A big hug!”
The farewell ceremony will commence on the final day of the 22-23 la liga campaign. Alba and Busquets final outing for Barcelona will be against Celta Vigo on 4th June.
As far as Lionel Messi is concerned, there is no news on whether he’ll be available to attend the game or not.
