With last night’s ‘assist of the season’ against Angers, Lionel Messi has broken another record in Ligue 1 and has placed himself amongst the league legend Kylian Mbape and Eden Hazard.
Lionel Messi is the gift that keeps on giving.
The Argentine is living true to his playmaker status as he is providing both assists and scoring goals throughout this season.
In all competitions, World Cup winner Lionel Messi has helped Paris Saint Germain with 31 goals and 33 assists. And when it comes to Ligue 1, the Goat status footballer has scored a total of 21 goals.
The fact that he scored these goals with both Neymar and Kylian Mbape in the team is just mindblowing.
His latest honor came against Angers when Messi placed a gorgeous assist for Kylian Mabappe which he scored. The assist helped Messi become only the third player to score at least 15 goals and 15 assists in a Ligue 1 campaign since 2006/07.
The other two players who have done that are Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard and Messi’s teammate Kylian Mbappe.
Eden Hazard who started his career at Lille had a sensational 5 seasons in Ligue 1 that led English club Chelsea to buy him in 2012. In his 2011/12 season with the club, Hazard managed to score 20 goals while also providing 17 assists.
While Kylian Mbappe entered the list just last year in the 2021/22 season where the French captain scored 28 goals and provided 17 assists.
Lionel Messi’s career at PSG might be ending relatively soon but the Argentine has still made a striking impression in Ligue 1.
