Khabib Nurmagomedov is ready to make his childhood dream come true and become a full-time professional footballer by accepting an offer from a club. The former UFC lightweight champion is a very big fan of the sport. He has often been spotted not only watching games but also playing football in Russia.
Earlier this year, Khabib got an offer to play for the third division Russian side FC Kamaz. However, Khabib wants to improve his fitness as well as his footballing skills. The desire to improve on his part his clear.
“A lot of football clubs, they offer me [a contract],” Nurmagomedov said. “But I have to, a little bit, become football shape. Because football shape is a little bit different than MMA [shape]. When you have to fight in MMA and you have to play in football, these are two different [things]. If some clubs offer me [a deal] and they make me an interesting [offer], I’m going to accept this.”
Khabib clearly wants to have a career in football, as it was one of his childhood dreams.
“To play football on a professional level is a childhood dream,” the Dagestani fighter told Match TV. “Of course, I have such a wish. Football is the king of sports after all.
“Spartak Moscow of course are great, but that’s domestic level. My dream club is Real Madrid. In fact, the first match I remember watching the full 90 minutes, was Real vs Juventus in 1998 [Champions League final]. I remember Mijatovic scored from an offside position, but we still won.”
It is yet to be seen if the dreams of the UFC legend do come true. However, one thing is for sure; Khabib has the work ethic to become a professional at whatever sport he wants to be good at.
