We are reliving the iconic time when Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich set the Goat debate on fire.
Kimmich is a class German defender who has faced numerous strikers in his career at Bayern Munich. The 28-year-old has constantly appeared in the Champions League where he faced the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
While he didn’t had much luck against Ronaldo, he often got the better of the latter three stars.
Ahead of Bayern Munich’s Champions League fixture against Real Madrid, Joshua Kimmich was asked about the GOAT debate. While the defender was presented with the obvious two names to pick from, he choose his then-opponent, Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of the number of goals he can score.
“When it comes to goal quotas, Ronaldo is in the lead.”
He then went on to distinguish the two forwards insisting that he can’t really choose one from the other,
“Messi is a completely different type of player. Ronaldo is perhaps more complete in terms of skills themselves. Messi is more a dribbler, Ronaldo the final player. I cannot say this one or that one. I am glad that I am allowed to witness both.”
The clash itself didn’t go Bayern Munich’s way as they failed to contain Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema, and Gareth Bale.
However, Joshua Kimmich won the Champions League in 2020 when he came up against PSG in the final.
After years of dominance in the Bundesliga, Joshua Kimmich’s contract with Bayern Munich will expire this summer. The player and the club have yet to begin renewal talks.
“He is a defender but can play perfectly in midfield as a number six. He can be one of the best players in world football in several positions, maybe he already is.” – said Barcelona manager Xavi about Joshua Kimmich.
It is being reported that Barcelona are keeping a close eye at the defender’s next move.
