Jerome Rothen urges PSG to sell two stars before getting rid of Neymar

April 21, 2023

Former Paris Saint-Germain player Jerome Rothen has slammed Marquinhos and Marco Verratti, urging the Parisians to sell the duo because they are a reason for the club’s failure.

The Ligue 1 side have not had the best seasons, having been kicked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the Round of 16. Although they remain top of the French Ligue 1 table, it has been challenging for them, especially since the turn of the year.

According to ex-PSG player Rothen, the Parisians’ failures are down to three players: Neymar, Marco Varetti and Marquinhos.

But the Frenchman has urged the club to sell Varetti and Marquinhos as that will be better for the club than selling Neymar.

“Getting [Neymar] to leave today is very complicated,” Rothen said in his segment on RMC Sports.

“Above all, it would be a waste of time because if there is to be a radical change in the locker room, you have to break Neymar’s allies in the locker room and cut off the heads of some.

“A Verratti, for example, is not enough in relation to its investment. There are others, like Lionel Messi, at the end of the contract, which should not be extended, or Sergio Ramos at the end of the contract too. So I would focus more on these players; it is more feasible.”

“Verratti, you put him on the transfer market; even if he has not extended for a long time, I think there are clubs that will go there,” he added.

“There will be suitors to take Verratti but also to take Marquinhos. It’s hard when I say that because he’s your captain. But these guys symbolize the failure of PSG in the European Cup.”

Although Neymar could leave the club this summer, Verratti and Marquinhos are more integral parts of the team, and PSG have managed to keep off potential suitors.
