La Liga president Javier Tebas has stated that he hopes that Barcelona will re-sign Lionel Messi while hailing him as the best player in the world.
Given his contract situation at Paris Saint-Germain, the Argentina captain continues to be linked with a remarkable return to Camp Nou in the summer. The 35-year-old’s contract at the French club expires at the end of the season, but talks over a renewal with PSG have reached an impasse.
According to recent reports, Barcelona has sought talks with La Liga to generate more flexibility in the Financial Fair Play rules that will allow them to land Messi this summer.
La Liga chief Tebas has insisted that Barca must reduce their wage bill by at least €200 million to sign or register new players.
However, Tebas seem to have changed tune and is open to the possibility of the Blaugrana signing Messi.
According to the Spaniard, although a deal for Messi seems unlikely at the moment, he hopes it happens eventually.
“Today, I don’t see his signing as feasible,” he said via 90min.
“But there’s a lot of time left, and Barca can still make moves to get him. So I hope and wish they make it happen. I’m a fan of Messi; he is the best player in the world.”
Messi became a Barcelona legend during his 16 seasons with the club. He scored 672 goals and provided 303 assists in 778 games for the Spanish giants before leaving for PSG in 2021.
