Man Utd’s Captain Harry Maguire Linked With Shock Move To PSG

March 11, 2023

The transfer window speculations have already begun to heat up. The latest report is that Harry Maguire, the captain of Manchester United, could make a shock transfer to Paris Saint-Germain for £50 million.

Maguire has been a key defender for United, but this season, his lack of playing time has sparked rumors of a possible departure. Manager Erik ten Hag has been preferring Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez at center-back.

The English defender has only featured in eleven Premier League games this season, with two of those starts coming after the World Cup ended. According to reports, Manchester United are willing to let Maguire leave this summer, with a possible deal with PSG on the table.

According to The Sun, PSG are reportedly targeting Maguire this summer as they look to add to their defense. Sergio Ramos, who joined the French club last summer, is out of contract this summer and is yet to agree on a renewal.

If the Spaniard leaves, PSG will need to line up a replacement. Maguire is one of the players that the Parisians have been looking at to bolster their defense. Reports suggest that PSG was willing to sign Maguire in January as well, but the deal never materialized.

Maguire might cost PSG approximately £50 million if he were to join the French club. The club will also have to match the defender’s £200,000 weekly salary.

This would seem problematic, especially given that PSG must lower their payroll by 30% this summer due to FFP. Matching Maguire’s pay, however, shouldn’t be a problem considering the club’s riches.

This season, PSG has been among the top teams in Ligue 1, but their defense has been a weakness. The French club has to improve their defense because they have allowed 24 goals in 28 games and there is uncertainty around Sergio Ramos’ future.

With the arrival of Maguire, the team would have a dependable and seasoned center-back with Premier League and international experience. The English defender might benefit from PSG’s bid for a Champions League triumph and provide their team with more depth.

As for Man Utd, they have been linked with potential replacements, such as RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Ajax’s Jurrien Timber. United’s defense has been one of the strongest in the Premier League this season, conceding only 20 goals in 28 matches.

Losing Maguire would be a blow, but Man United has the resources to find a suitable replacement.
