Real Madrid fans were left red-faced over an Instagram post by Barcelona midfielder Gavi after their side loss to Girona.
The 18-year-old is popular among the Barcelona fanbase due to his passionate nature. The Spaniard wears his heart on his sleeve, making him a fan favourite amongst Barcelona supporters.
But that same thing has made him unpopular with opposition players and rival supporters, especially Real Madrid fans. Los Blancos fans are not too fond of the Spaniard, and their relationship with the 18-year-old has worsened these past few days.
The incident occurred during Real Madrid’s latest 4-2 loss to Girona. After the game, Gavi made a post on his Instagram in which where he posted an image of himself with several teammates boarding a plane. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, he attached two emoticons of laughter to the image, which infuriated Real Madrid fans, given that the post came shortly after Madrid’s loss to Girona.
Several fans on social media quickly interpreted it as a dig at Real Madrid, even though it did not refer to Los Blancos. The timing of the post, of course, gave people food for thought.
However, the post returned to bite Barca and Gavi as Rayo Vallecano beat them on Tuesday. However, the result for Real Madrid and Barca means that the Blaugrana are 11 points ahead of Los Blancos in the La Liga title race.
So, it would take a miracle for Barcelona not to end this season as the champions of Spain.
