France vs England, FIFA World Cup 2022: Team News

England:

While the news of a break-in at the house of Chelsea forward Raheem Sterling over the weekend partly overshadowed England’s victory over Senegal, Sterling will be back with the team on Friday and could strive for participation. Ben White, a player for Arsenal, is still out in action due to a personal matter.

Southgate was also given a scare with Declan Rice, who missed training on Wednesday owing to sickness, although his condition is unlikely to prevent him from playing on Saturday. Callum Wilson has recovered from a small injury, but he was never expected to start.

Many have predicted that Southgate would return to a three-man backline this weekend, but the 52-year-old has suggested that he will stay with the tried-and-true 4-3-3 configuration that has paid dividends so far, enabling Henderson to link up with Rice and Bellingham in the midfield once again.

France:

The media went into a frenzy when France’s leading scorer, Mbappe, missed training on Tuesday due to ankle pain, but the 23-year-old forward returned to the practice fields on Wednesday and is expected to start for the French team.

France has won all nine of Mbappe’s World Cup starts, and Giroud, who already has three goals to his credit in Qatar, has a chance to tie the record established by Roger Milla, the only player older than 36 to score four goals in a single World Cup.

Deschamps is not inclined to take yellow card suspensions into account when deciding on his best XI to face the opposition in the semi-finals, even though Aurelien Tchouameni and Jules Kounde would miss the next match if they get one.

France vs England, FIFA World Cup 2022: Probable Playing XI

England’s possible starting lineup:

Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw; Bellingham, Rice, Henderson; Saka, Kane, Foden

France’s possible starting lineup:

Lloris; Kounde, Varane, Upamecano, T. Hernandez; Tchouameni, Rabiot; Dembele, Griezmann, Mbappe; Giroud

Match Predictions:

The longer this quarterfinal goes on, the better for England, who have a plethora of offensive firepower on the bench ready to make a difference against fatigued French legs.

However, Southgate’s squad hasn’t gotten off to fast starts in any of their three World Cup games so far, and Mbappe and Giroud won’t need a second invitation to take advantage of another sluggish beginning.

How effectively each team manages Mbappe and Bellingham’s star qualities might determine the outcome of Saturday’s game, but we see no way for England to win and can only see France sending the Three Lions home empty-handed once again.

Expect, England 1- France
