FOUR Barca players OPPOSSED to Lionel Messi’s return

April 26, 2023

While Barcelona fans have made their desire to see Lionel Messi back at Camp Nou public and loud, not everyone is happy that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is potentially returning to the club.

Messi’s much-publicised imminent return has sent a large section of the Barca fan base into a frenzy as they continue to dream of the mercurial Argentina international donning their famous shirt again.

The former Barca number ten has rejected several offers from PSG to commit to a new deal that will keep him at Parc des Princes beyond this summer and is instead waiting till the summer to make up his mind.

But that has not stopped rumours that he will be back in Catalonia two years after leaving. Barca have made it clear that they are actively looking to bring him back despite their financial limitations and are currently working on the modalities that will allow him return to Spain.

However, according to reports by El Nacional via Sportskeeda, at least four current Barcelona players are opposing the club legend’s possible return this summer.

The report claims that the quartet of goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, attacker Ansu Fati and French winger Ousmane Dembele are against the Argentine’s comeback this summer.

Fati’s grievance is that he would have to give up his number 10 jersey for the Argentine. Also, his chances of starting regularly will lessen upon Messi’s return.

Meanwhile, Dembele, who has been able to nail down a place in the starting XI in his preferred right-wing position since Messi’s departure, might once again struggle to find game time if the 35-year-old returns. Messi also prefers playing on the right wing and might pose a threat to Dembele.

As per the report, Lewandowski doesn’t want to relinquish his title as the only star player in the team, so he doesn’t want the deal to happen. Although the Pole believes that Messi would be an excellent partner for him up front, he wants to keep his status as the team’s undisputed star.

Meanwhile, Ter Stegen is reportedly not on talking terms with Messi since their altercation in 2021 during a training session bust-up.

While the internal politics of the squad continues to rage, it remains to be seen if it will affect Barca’s decision to bring Messi back to Spain.

  1. Robert Lewandoski, don’t be afraid, your role remain your role as a number nine player on the, you will perform the same way as Luis Swareue perform, and carried Toyota Key on Barcelona F.C, you will do the same too, as of Ansu Fati, your number you were wearing should remain with you, number has effect, look as the history of Christiano Ronaldo leaving Real Madrid, he was not certified to leave the team, why Hazard decided to use that number, it causes more effect for him………..
