FC Barcelona has planned to sign this Premier League forward if Lionel Messi’s return falls flat

May 31, 2023

Spanish club Barcelona is confident that Manchester City forward Bernardo Silva will come to Laliga if the Messi deal doesn’t go through.

The Portuguese forward has been linked with Barcelona since 2022. He is Pep Guardiola’s main man at Manchester City. Someone who can both score goals and create chances in the most difficult moments.

According to Gerard Romero, Barcelona will happily agree on a deal for the Portugues if the return of Lionel Messi falls flat.

Bernardo Silva is contracted with Manchester City until the 2025 season.

However, the 28-year-old has himself entertained the idea of leaving City at the end of this season. He recently said,

“The program is to finish the season well, win the Premier League, try against United in the FA Cup final, and then Inter,”

Silva added: “After that, this summer, we’ll see what happens.”

His manager Pep Guardiola is someone who does not appreciate unhappy players even if they are crucial to the squad. While speaking to the press, Guardiola said that Silva is free to leave if he is unhappy.

“I’m no one to tell Barca to forget about Bernardo. We want him to stay with us, but I don’t want anyone who’s not happy.”

Pep Guardiola added: “The first thing would be for the clubs to come to an agreement, but there has been no offer for him in these last two years. I don’t want him to go, he’s a superlative player and a great person… and there are only seven or eight days left and we would have to turn to the transfer market. I want him to stay. That said, it is true Bernardo likes Barcelona a lot.”

But Barcelona’s first priority still remains their former superstar Lionel Messi, who can come to the club on a free transfer. His future depends on what Laliga thinks of Barca’s financial matters.
