Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag admits the fine performances of David de Gea kept them in the game against Fulham yesterday before they eventually won.
The Cottagers took the lead in the game and seemed to head for a famous win at Old Trafford, but a moment of madness saw their manager and two players sent in one minute.
It made the Londoners capitulate and United won the game 3-1, thanks to a brace from Bruno Fernandes and Ten Hag knows if not for De Gea’s saves, things could have been different.
He said via Daily Mail:
‘We created great opportunities and at half time we should have been up because I can’t remember a save from David in the first half.
‘And in second half, we came [into] difficulties out of the dressing room.
‘We conceded the goal from the set play and we needed David to survive the game because he had two great saves.
‘And then the key moment it was a great attacking transition and really well done by Antony, really well done by Jadon (Sancho), and it was a clear and obvious penalty.’
De Gea is an important player for United, and every season, he proves why the club needs him more and more, which makes it hard for him to be allowed to leave.
The Red Devils are in talks with his camp to extend his deal, and fans will be delighted to hear that.
Fulham’s capitulation shows the difference between a top club and a small one in England and Marco Silva must take responsibility for the chaos he created for his team on the pitch.
They could have won the game if he had kept his cool because they were on top for much of it, and he should learn from that.
