Bayern Munich has reportedly joined the list of clubs queuing for the signature of Mason Mount.
According to The Times via Dailymail, the Bavarians are considering a move for the Englishman, with new boss Thomas Tuchel eager to reunite with the player he knows very well during his time as Chelsea boss.
Tuchel replaced sacked boss Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern late last week, and he is already planning his summer moves this window.
He is reportedly keen on Mount, who seems set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after a contract standoff with Chelsea.
The 24-year-old reportedly rejected a £200,000-a-week deal at Stamford Bridge, hoping to land a salary similar to the £300-a-week wage held by England team-mate Raheem Sterling, who moved to Chelsea last summer from Manchester City.
Chelsea is unwilling to match Mount’s demands and is increasingly resigned to losing him this summer. The reported £120million financial loss recorded last season by the club also means that selling Mount and several key first-team players is now a must for Chelsea, who must raise funds to avoid breaking FFP rules.
With just one year left in his contract at Stamford Bridge, Mount will be cheaper than his actual market value. And so Bayern is hoping to take advantage of the contract impasse and lure him on a cut-price deal.
Chelsea wants to get at least £50 million from the sale of Mount, but that is increasingly unlikely given the stars’ insistence on leaving.
Besides Bayern, Premier League rivals Liverpool have also expressed an interest in Mount, with Jurgen Klopp eager to rebuild his ageing midfield in the summer window. Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the Chelsea star.
However, it seems unlikely that neither Bayern, Liverpool or Manchester United will pay Mount the £300-a-week wage he is reportedly asking for.
