On Sunday, Barcelona defeated Espanyol 4-2 in the Catalan derby to win the Spanish league title. When the home fans arrived on the pitch, the visiting squad quickly had to leave after celebrating by dancing around the centre circle.
While some spectators appeared to exit the tunnel, others threw chairs and rails at security personnel who were attempting to obstruct access to the changing rooms. As the crazy scenes continued, police in riot gear emerged and attempted to repel some of the pitch intruders.
According to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, the perpetrators were ultras who had their faces masked and said, “Let’s go get them.”
After police came on the scene and barred the supporters’ access to the tunnel, guards moved forward after the fans began throwing objects.

There will undoubtedly be an investigation into the violence, and Espanyol may face consequences for the unruly actions of their supporters. When Barcelona plays Real Sociedad on Saturday, they will have another opportunity to revel in their championship triumph in the comfort of their own stadium and in front of their supporters.
