Australia vs Denmark, FIFA World Cup 2022: Team News
Australia:
Having injured his ankle in Australia’s opening game against France, Nathaniel Atkinson was unable to play in the team’s subsequent victory over Tunisia.
Atkinson was replaced by Fran Karacic of Brescia at right back, the only change the manager made, and given the result, Graham Arnold is unlikely to make any more, injury permitting.
Yet, the absence of Hibernian forward Martin Boyle, who tore his ACL the day before the tournament and will miss the rest of the season, is still felt keenly.
Denmark:
After suffering a knee injury in the first half of Denmark’s opening match against Tunisia, Thomas Delaney will not play again in this tournament.
Hjulmand made a corresponding tactical adjustment, moving from a 3-5-2 formation to a 3-4-3, with Mikkel Damsgaard replacing one of the central midfielders with the Brentford player.
Against France, Jesper Lindstrom and Victor Nelsson were inserted into the starting lineup in place of Andreas Skov Olsen and the ageing Simon Kjaer, whose playing time is being wisely limited, but both players are expected to return.
Australia vs Denmark, FIFA World Cup 2022: Probable Playing XI
Australia’s possible starting lineup:
Ryan; Karacic, Souttar, Rowles, Behich; Leckie, Irvine, Mooy, McGree, Goodwin; Duke
Denmark’s possible starting lineup:
Schmeichel; Andersen, Kjaer, Christensen; Kristensen, Hojbjerg, Eriksen, Maehle; Skov Olsen, Dolberg, Damsgaard
Match Predictions:
Australia will have a tough time against a Danish team that is keen to not be one of the big underachievers at these championships, even though all they need is a draw to advance.
Denmark played well under duress against Russia in Euro 2020, and they may be able to do it again.
Expect Australia 0-3 Denmark
