Last Thursday, Real Madrid announced the signing of Arda Guler in a statement which read:
“Real Madrid C. F. and Fenerbahçe SK have agreed the transfer of Arda Guler, who signs a deal with our club for the next six seasons.”
The creative midfielder, known as the “Turkish Messi,” rose to prominence after a string of standout performances for Fenerbahce of the Turkish Super Lig, with his left-footed style of play evoking comparisons to the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.
During his presentation in front of the media, the Turkish youngster said:
“I want to become a Real Madrid legend.”
Real Madrid fans are clearly delighted about his decision, with his transfer announcement amassing over 925,000 likes on Twitter.
This puts him beyond Messi’s announcement of his transfer to Paris-Saint-Germain, which received 810,000 likes.
Arda Guler must still do more, however, to catch up to Manchester United’s announcement of Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford in 2021, which received 1.8 Million likes.
