France has reportedly made Kylian Mbappe their latest captain, a decision that has not gone well with Antoine Griezmann.
The French national team has seen several players resign after the World Cup. Former captain Hugo Lloris retired from international football after the competition.
Raphael Varane was the overwhelming favourite to become the team’s next leader, but he also shocked everyone by resigning from international football.
This made it hard for the handlers to pick the next man, but Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud are two men fans would have expected to be named the countries leader.
However, a report via L’Equipe claims Mbappe has been chosen by the national team manager Didier Deschamps to take over the huge responsibility, which reportedly shocked Greizmann.
The attacker has been in the Les Blues team for a long time, longer than Mbappe, having been one of their best players at Euro 2016, when the PSG man did not even think he would be in the national team.
But Mbappe has been a sensation for the national team and scored a hattrick in the final of the last World Cup against Argentina, which brought him close to winning back-to-back Football Mundial trophies.
Griezmann is reportedly now considering his future in the national team, and he might even retire because the decision does not impress him.
Managing a national team is tricky, and trying to make everyone happy is the easier way to fail as a coach. Deschamp probably made the decision with a long-term view, knowing that Mbappe has many more years to play for the national team because he is much younger than Griezmann.
If the Atletico Madrid man retires from international football now, France will move on, and they have some of the best attackers looking to break into the team.
